Report to: Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM) & Office Manager

 

The role of the practice supervisor is to develop the clinical and practice expertise of health and social care assistants within the Bluebird care organisation. They will have a key role in supporting and managing the performance, practice, and functional elements of the care assistant role. 

 

The role of Practice Supervisor will:

•       Conduct scheduled and unannounced care supervision visits in a wide variety of practice settings

•       Oversee the accurate maintenance of supervision records

•       Participate in care activities as part of the care supervision process

•       Employ a best practice approach in the care of customers

•       Work under the direction and supervision of the CNM & Office Manager

 

The practice supervisor role will involve appraising the practice performance of care assistants and comply with allocated practice supervisions. This person will not have a formal line management function per se and will refer all staff management and employee relations issues from care assistants to the Clinical Nurse Manager or their nominated deputy.

 

Qualifications:


•       QQI/FETAC L5 Major award for Health Care Skills,

 

•       *L6 Supervisory management essential or must be willing to complete same (healthcare industry desirable),

 

•       Computer literacy/administration is desirable,

 

•       Current Patient Moving and Handling essential,

 

•       Risk Assessment knowledge is desirable,

 

*Certain exemptions may apply in relation to this requirement,

 

Experience:

 

•       A minimum of two years’ experience working in the care sector desirable.

Key Work Functions

 

(Please note this is not an exhaustive list)

 

•      Provide practice supervision and knowledge support to the care assistant,

•      Escalate any performance or behaviour concerns they may have to their line manager (CNM) as soon as possible so that deficiencies in practice standards are immediately remedied,

•      Conduct the supervisory role in a tactful and confidential manner,

•      Liaise with the customer/ family member,

•      Liaise with other Bluebird care staff i.e. Care Coordinators, Clinical Nurse Manager,

•      Liaise with health care professionals/ statutory personnel/ others throughout the community as necessary,

•      Respond to care assistants concerns appropriately and effectively,

•      Provide support, guidance, and advice to care assistants as necessary,

•      Direct care staff and provide them with clear and unambiguous instructions as necessary

•      Inform Senior Nurse/ CNM in relation to all quality and operational matters,

•      Monitor the quality and standard of care delivered in the care environment,

•      Provide feedback to care assistants regarding his/ her performance/behaviour,

•      Monitor staff training & CPD,

•      Maintain their own continued professional development

•      Ensure all policies, procedures and guidance are implemented effectively,

•      Ensure all care assistants are fully aware of customer safeguarding requirements,

•      Provide (in exceptional circumstances) care directly to a customer in the event that a care assistant becomes unavailable to carry out a call,

•      Safeguard the interest of customers at all times.

•      Knowledge and compliance with GDPR

•      Comply with all health and safety requirements

•      Adhere to all Bluebird Care policies, protocols, and guidelines relevant to the role

•      Complete and comply with safeguarding training.

•      Support CNM in carrying out care plan assessments and care plan reviews as required

•      Keeping records, reports, and files up to date with changing information

•      Assist and prepare for audits ensuring compliance (customer & staff files)

•      The preparation of reports as required

•      Carry out any other administrative tasks that may be required

•      Participate in the on-call Bluebird Care emergency phone
